"Silicon Valley used to be a big manufacturing center for all types of technology. When I first moved to the Santa Clara Valley there were plants building semiconductor products, hard disk drives, computers, networking and testing equipment as well as many other products. There were lots of machine shops, job shops, parts suppliers and other support organizations helping with prototypes, manufacturing fixtures and other services. Since those days of extensive manufacturing in the Valley, most high technology manufacturing has moved overseas, to Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and especially China..."
